Employee Relations Advisor, Preston

Permanent, hybrid

C£35,000 - £38,000


We are seeking a confident and pragmatic Employee Relations Advisor to join a utilities business in Preston. Reporting directly to the Employee Relations Manager you'll provide expert advice and guidance across a wide range of employee relations matters, helping managers confidently navigate complex people issues while ensuring employment legislation and best practice are consistently applied.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Employee Relations Manager, supporting the delivery of the organisation's employee relations strategy.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to managers on all employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, performance, capability and flexible working.
  • Manage a varied employee relations caseload from initial enquiry through to resolution, ensuring cases are handled fairly, consistently and in line with employment legislation.
  • Coach and support managers to build confidence in managing employee issues and applying HR policies.
  • Attend formal meetings where required, advising on process and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Review and update HR policies and procedures to reflect legislative changes and best practice.
  • Analyse employee relations trends and produce reports and management information to support informed decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider HR team to deliver an excellent people service and drive continuous improvement.


About You

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience in an Employee Relations Advisor or HR Advisor role with significant employee relations case management.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to prioritise a varied workload and manage multiple cases effectively.
  • A proactive, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent experience) is desirable.


This is a permanent, hybrid role based in Preston, offering c£35,000 - £38,000 per annum.
