Role Description The Senior / Principal Electrical Building Services Engineer will lead the design, coordination, and delivery of electrical building services for a range of construction projects, including commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed-use developments. Day-to-day tasks include developing electrical schemes, producing calculations and technical drawings, specifying equipment, reviewing contractor proposals, and ensuring designs meet regulatory requirements, sustainability targets, and client standards. The role involves guiding junior engineers, providing technical oversight, participating in design reviews, and collaborating closely with mechanical, structural, and architectural teams. The engineer will attend client and site meetings, support tender documentation, and contribute to project planning, risk assessment, and quality assurance. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Southampton, with a combination of office presence and work-from-home flexibility.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong expertise in Building Services and Electrical Engineering, including design, coordination, and compliance with relevant standards and codes.
- Candidates should possess skills related to Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems, including integration of electrical services within multidisciplinary building services designs.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of Building Maintenance and Facility Management (FM) principles, ensuring designs support efficient operation, maintenance, and lifecycle performance.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in relevant design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD/Revit, calculation software, lighting and power design tools) and strong technical reporting skills.
- Candidates should possess excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with experience leading projects, mentoring engineers, and engaging with clients and contractors.
- Candidates should possess a degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent), and professional registration or working towards chartership (e.g., IEng/CEng) is highly beneficial.
- Candidates should possess a solid understanding of UK building regulations, BS standards, health and safety requirements, and sustainable design practices (e.g., energy efficiency, low-carbon solutions).
