Design Manager | Water Infrastructure

Location: Epsom, London, Peterborough, or Cambridge

Pattern: Hybrid (3 days/week office/site, 2 days remote)

Type: Contract

Are you an experienced Design Manager looking to lead high-impact, complex engineering packages across nationally significant water infrastructure programmes?

We are seeking a senior technical leader to drive multidisciplinary design teams from early-stage feasibility right through to detailed design and construction support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead & Coordinate: Oversee multidisciplinary engineering teams (Civil, MEICA, Structural, Geotechnical).
• Package Delivery: Ensure complex design deliverables (drawings, calculations, specs, reports) are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality.
• Technical Governance: Lead design reviews, risk assessments, CDM compliance, and QA processes.
• Stakeholder Management: Build strong collaborative relationships with Project Managers, clients, and main contractors.
• Team Development: Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers across the practice.

What We’re Looking For:

• Education: Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
• Experience: Proven track record leading multidisciplinary design teams within water infrastructure (consultancy or tier 1 contractor environment).
• Technical Mastery: Deep understanding of CDM Regulations, Eurocodes, NEC contracts, and UK water industry standards.
• Project Delivery: Demonstrated skill in managing design programmes, budgets, resource allocation, and change management.
• Qualifications: Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status is strongly desirable.
