Family Solicitor – Legal Aid

A well-established and growing London law firm is seeking an experienced Family Solicitor to join its Legal Aid Family team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Family Solicitor who is passionate about publicly funded work and wants to join a supportive and client-focused team offering hybrid working.
The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload of Legal Aid family matters, with particular exposure to private children, domestic abuse and associated family proceedings. You will be given a high level of responsibility for your own caseload while working alongside experienced solicitors and support staff.
The Role
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of publicly funded Family matters from initial instruction through to conclusion.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a caseload of Legal Aid Family matters.
- Advising clients in relation to private children proceedings.
- Dealing with domestic abuse matters, including Non-Molestation and Occupation Orders.
- Handling applications under the Children Act where appropriate.
- Preparing applications, statements, court documents and hearing bundles.
- Attending hearings and undertaking advocacy where appropriate.
- Liaising with Counsel, experts, Cafcass, social services and other professionals.
- Preparing and submitting Legal Aid applications through CCMS.
- Ensuring files remain compliant with Legal Aid Agency requirements.
- Providing clear and practical advice to clients.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case management records.
- Managing deadlines and progressing matters efficiently.
- Maintaining a high standard of client care throughout.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues within the wider Family team.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales.
- Previous experience working within a Legal Aid Family department.
- Experience managing their own caseload of publicly funded matters.
- Strong experience in private children and/or domestic abuse work.
- Good knowledge of Legal Aid Agency requirements and CCMS.
- Experience of preparing for and attending Family Court hearings.
- Advocacy experience is highly desirable.
- Children Panel or Family Law Accreditation would be advantageous, although not essential.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- A sensitive and empathetic approach to dealing with vulnerable clients.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
- A genuine commitment to Legal Aid and access to justice.

Ideal Candidate
This role would suit a Family Solicitor who enjoys Legal Aid work and wants to build a long-term career within a specialist Family department.
You should be comfortable managing your own caseload, dealing directly with clients and progressing matters with a good degree of autonomy. The firm is particularly interested in someone who combines strong technical Family Law knowledge with excellent client care and a genuine commitment to publicly funded work.
Experience of domestic abuse, private children work, advocacy and CCMS would be particularly valuable.
