Looking for a high-impact Senior Buyer role in the UK retail sector?

A leading retail business is currently seeking an experienced candidate to join their Category team, taking full ownership of branded and own-label product ranges—including seasonal and Homeware lines on a 12 month Fixed-term contract.

Reporting into a Category Manager, this role is ideal for a commercially minded buying professional looking to drive product strategy, negotiate top-tier supplier deals, and deliver exceptional value, quality, and range availability to customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and launch branded and own-label ranges informed by sales data, seasonal demand, and market trends.
• Conduct supplier reviews, negotiate pricing and terms, and secure high-impact promotional opportunities.
• Manage the complete product lifecycle from sample reviews through to store placement, collaborating closely with Logistics, Product Safety, Finance, and Retail Ops.
• Set objectives, coach, and support the career development of junior or trainee buyers.
• Track supplier KPIs, monitor competitor activity, and optimise stock availability through precise forecasting.
• Travel for supplier meetings, trade shows, and store visits as required.

Requirements

• Strong background in retail buying and merchandising within a fast-paced environment.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders, negotiate competitive terms, and build strong supplier relationships.
• Track record of mentoring junior talent and working seamlessly across cross-functional teams.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in retail buying/merchandising, or significant relevant industry experience.
• Willingness to travel for trade shows, supplier visits, and internal store reviews.
