Job description

  • Lead PayPal's EU/UK Credit Legal team and manage a multi-jurisdictional legal team
  • Provide day-to-day management, mentoring, and development for attorneys and legal professionals
  • Advise senior executives and EU/UK business leadership on strategic decisions
  • Anticipate, manage, and mitigate regulatory and legal risks
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in legal practices
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, product, risk, marketing, privacy, treasury, tax, finance, and accounting teams
  • Lead CCD II implementation across all EU markets
  • Provide legal support for BNPL geographic expansion initiatives and strategic partnerships
  • Handle senior escalations involving collections, debt sales, and credit risk
  • Advise on and negotiate credit agreements, credit promotions, and partnerships
  • Review marketing, product, compliance, and credit risk materials
  • Support regulatory exams, licensing matters, and regulator interactions
  • Coordinate outside counsel across EU and UK jurisdictions
  • Partner with US Credit Legal leadership on cross-border matters

Requirements

  • 12+ years relevant experience
  • Juris Doctorate degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and managing attorneys across EU and UK markets
  • Ability to advise senior executives and influence business strategy
  • Experience managing regulatory and legal risks
  • Knowledge of EU and UK credit, payments, and financial services regulations
  • Experience with credit agreements, credit promotions, and financial institution partnerships
  • Experience advising on product structuring, choice of law, and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions
  • Experience supporting regulatory exams, licensing matters, and interactions with EU and UK financial regulators
  • Experience managing outside counsel relationships across EU and UK jurisdictions
