About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and commercially mindedJunior Estimatorto join our growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with aconstruction or electrical backgroundwho is looking to develop their career within estimating and commercial project management. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a diverse range of projects, from smaller works valued at approximately£10,000 through to major projects in excess of £10 million.
You will work closely with experienced estimators, project managers, suppliers and clients, developing your technical and commercial knowledge while supporting the preparation of accurate and competitive project estimates.
The Role
As a Junior Estimator, you will support the estimating team throughout the tendering process, helping to ensure projects are priced accurately, competitively and within required timescales.
Your responsibilities will include:
Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation.
Assisting with the preparation of detailed project estimates and quotations.
Taking off quantities from drawings and project information.
Obtaining and analysing material, labour and subcontractor costs.
Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
Assisting with the preparation of bills of quantities and pricing schedules.
Identifying project requirements, exclusions, risks and potential commercial opportunities.
Supporting senior estimators with larger and more complex tenders.
Maintaining accurate estimating records and project information.
Assisting with tender submissions and ensuring deadlines are met.
Developing an understanding of project costs, margins and commercial considerations.
Working with the wider project team to ensure a smooth handover from estimating to delivery.
Building knowledge of current construction methods, materials, labour rates and market conditions.
About You
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about developing a career in estimating and has a genuine interest in the construction and commercial industry.
Ideally, you will have:
Previous experience or qualifications withinconstruction, electrical engineering, building services or a related discipline.
A good understanding of construction or electrical installations and associated materials.
The ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
The ability to organise your workload and work to tight deadlines.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
A willingness to learn and develop professionally.
A commercial mindset and an interest in understanding how projects are priced and delivered.
Previous estimating experience would be advantageous but isnot essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong technical foundation who are looking to take the next step in their career.
