Learning Design Manager

South London | Permanent | Circa 70k


Instinct is working with a successful, fast-growing global organisation to recruit a Learning Design Manager into a newly created role within its Learning & Development function.


This is a senior, hands-on learning design position for someone who enjoys working closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand learning needs, shape solutions and turn complex information into clear, engaging learning experiences. You’ll take ownership of learning content from initial scoping and needs analysis through to final sign-off, alongside managing one member of the team.


The role

Working across a variety of learning projects, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Partnering with stakeholders and SMEs to carry out training needs analysis and understand business requirements
  • Consulting with the business to gather, challenge and structure complex subject matter
  • Defining learning objectives and recommending appropriate learning approaches
  • Designing blended learning programmes across face-to-face, virtual and digital learning
  • Creating training presentations, facilitator guides, learner workbooks, assessments and process guides
  • Developing scripts and content for video and multimedia learning
  • Working alongside digital learning colleagues who will take responsibility for eLearning development and build
  • Reviewing learning materials and retaining ownership of final content sign-off
  • Managing and supporting a Training Content Specialist
  • Managing multiple projects and stakeholder requirements within a fast-paced environment


We’re looking for an experienced Learning & Development professional with a strong background in learning design, stakeholder consultancy and content development.


You’ll ideally have:

  • Significant experience within Learning & Development, ideally 10+ years
  • Strong experience scoping and designing learning solutions from initial requirement through to delivery
  • Experience designing blended learning, including face-to-face and virtual programmes
  • A strong understanding of adult learning and instructional design principles
  • Experience working within a fast-paced, complex and ideally international organisation
  • Excellent stakeholder management, consultancy and influencing skills
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple learning projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written communication and the ability to simplify complex information for different audiences
  • Previous experience managing or supporting another team member would be beneficial
  • Experience designing learning around technical or complex subject matter would be particularly advantageous


This is a predominantly office-based role in South London. You’ll initially be expected to work on-site five days per week, with the opportunity to work one day per week remotely following successful completion of probation.


Due to the working pattern, we're particularly interested in candidates who are already within a reasonable commute of South London and comfortable working predominantly on-site.


Salary & benefits

Up to £70,000 depending on experience, with potential flexibility for an exceptional candidate.

Interview process

The recruitment process is expected to involve an initial virtual interview, followed by an on-site final stage including a presentation.
