Procurement Engineer – 12-Month Contract

Location: Oxfordshire

Contract: 12 Months

Working Arrangement: Hybrid/Flexible

The Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Procurement Engineer to join a leading global engineering and healthcare organisation on a 12-month contract in Oxfordshire.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and supply of highly engineered components used within advanced medical imaging systems. You will play a key role in developing and implementing long-term sourcing strategies, using your engineering and procurement expertise to optimise cost, value, quality and supply chain capability.

Working across a broad portfolio of globally sourced components, you will act as a key interface between Procurement, Engineering, R&D, Quality and suppliers, ensuring that components are technically suitable, commercially competitive and capable of being manufactured consistently.

The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical manufacturing, combined with proven experience in cost analysis, value engineering, target costing and supplier development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical expertise to Procurement, acting as an interface between Procurement, suppliers and R&D throughout the product lifecycle.
• Lead and support cost and value optimisation activities across a range of engineered components.
• Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies for globally sourced components.
• Conduct Cost Value Engineering, Cost Analysis, Should Cost Analysis, Target Costing and benchmarking activities.
• Analyse product cost structures and identify key cost drivers and opportunities for optimisation.
• Support new product and design development through accurate cost estimation and technology-specific recommendations.

Technical Scope:

The role covers a broad range of manufacturing technologies and engineered components. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly beneficial:

• Machining and precision engineering
• Casting
• Composite structures
• Mechanical assemblies
• Fabricated assemblies
• Cable assemblies

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
• Several years' experience within engineering, procurement engineering, strategic procurement or a closely related technical commercial function.
• Proven experience developing and managing effective supplier relationships.
• Strong technical understanding of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical components and manufacturing processes.
• Demonstrable experience in cost structure analysis, cost-driver analysis, product cost optimisation and target costing.
• Experience delivering cost reduction and value engineering initiatives.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and their impact on product cost.
• Experience working collaboratively with Engineering, R&D, Procurement, Quality and Supply Chain functions.
