Medical Director
Salary: Competitive
Location: Basingstoke - Hybrid (with occasional travel to office as required)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (0.8 FTE can be considered)
Skylight Psychiatry is a forward-thinking, dynamic and growing mental health service. We are CQC registered and provide person-centred assessment, care and support for people with neurodevelopmental conditions, including ADHD and autism.
As Skylight continues to grow and develop new service lines, we are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist and clinical leader to provide senior clinical leadership across the organisation.
Role Purpose
The Medical Director is Skylight Psychiatry's senior medical and clinical leader at organisational level. The postholder will be an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist.
Working as a key member of the Senior Management Team, the Medical Director will provide strategic clinical leadership across Skylight's services, ensuring that clinical quality, safety and patient outcomes remain central to organisational decision-making and service development.
The role will provide senior clinical input into clinical governance, quality and risk, service development and clinical strategy, while supporting and developing clinical leaders across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Medical & Clinical Leadership
Act as the senior clinical leader across Skylight Psychiatry.
Provide strategic clinical advice to the Managing Director, Senior Management Team and Board as required.
Play an active role within the Senior Management Team, contributing to organisational strategy, priorities and decision-making.
Develop and oversee Skylight's clinical strategy in line with organisational growth and service development.
Provide senior clinical oversight and escalation where complex or significant clinical issues arise.
Ensure clear and effective clinical leadership arrangements exist across individual services and pathways.
Support, challenge and develop clinical leads, promoting appropriate clinical accountability and distributed leadership.
Promote a culture in which high-quality, safe and evidence-based care is embedded throughout the organisation.
Clinical Governance, Quality & Safety
Provide senior clinical leadership within Skylight's clinical governance arrangements and contribute actively to Clinical Governance meetings.
Ensure effective clinical governance standards and systems operate across all services.
Provide senior oversight of medical governance and professional standards across the organisation, ensuring appropriate arrangements for medical practice, accountability and escalation.
Provide senior clinical input into organisational risk management, safeguarding, incidents, complaints and learning.
Lead and contribute to clinical audit, quality assurance and outcome measurement.
Ensure learning from audit, incidents, complaints, patient experience and other quality information translates into improvements in clinical practice.
Support organisational readiness for CQC inspection and ensure services operate in accordance with relevant regulatory and professional standards.
Promote continuous improvement, reflective practice and organisational learning.
Clinical Services & Pathway Development
Provide senior clinical oversight of Skylight's existing clinical pathways.
Lead the clinical development of new services and pathways as the organisation expands.
Ensure clinical models, pathways and protocols are evidence-based, safe, effective and appropriate for the populations served.
Work collaboratively with operational, quality, commissioning and other leaders to ensure clinical and operational models are aligned.
Provide senior clinical input into tenders, commissioning opportunities and service mobilisation where required.
Support innovation and appropriate use of technology and digital approaches within clinical care.
Medical & Multidisciplinary Leadership
Provide senior medical leadership across the organisation.
Work closely with Consultant Psychiatrists and other senior clinicians, ensuring appropriate medical and multidisciplinary leadership within individual services.
