The advertised post is for a locum ophthalmology consultant to NHS Lanarkshire with a subspecialty interest in glaucoma. The post is being offered for six months in the first instance. The successful candidate will be part of the consultant team based at University Hospital Hairmyres, providing ophthalmic care to the whole of NHS Lanarkshire.

The post presents an exciting opportunity to the successful applicant to have a significant influence in the redesign of the glaucoma service. We have a highly motivated and skilled non-medical workforce working in the department and have strong links with community optometry with development of the Community Glaucoma Service. The successful candidate would work closely with the site management team to develop sustainable service delivery models for the future.

The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis (including up to 2 non-DCC) but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time.

Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non-DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well-developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research & Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements.
