A pioneering fintech startup founded in 2024 is building the palm-biometrics identity platform for payments and access control. They're already live in hospitality and fitness venues across the UK and Ireland, and scaling fast. They're looking for their second design hire to take full ownership of the end-to-end user experience.

About the role

You'll be leading the design time, right now it's 1 person, but it's growing. You'll define the product's aesthetics and functionality from scratch, working directly with the founders. A pivotal, fast-moving and innovative role, leveraging AI tools for rapid iteration from idea to launch.

What you'll do

• Design comprehensive product flows for terminals, kiosks and iPads, ensuring intuitive UX.
• Build a scalable design system from the ground up: principles, tokens, components, consistency across every touchpoint.
• Create intuitive merchant portals and develop the company's public website, translating the brand ethos into tangible assets.
• Own critical flows (payments, enrollment, access journeys) through rapid prototyping, testing and shipping.
• Bring AI-assisted tools into your process, from ideation to high-fidelity prototyping.
• Act as a strategic partner to the founders: spotting future opportunities, anticipating user needs, and contributing to the roadmap and long-term vision for the design function.

Must-haves

• 4+ years of solid Product Design experience (or an exceptional graduate).
• Strong portfolio showing end-to-end ownership from prototyping through to successful launch. Proven ability to deliver and implement your own designs, not just hand them off.
• An engineering or industrial design mindset, plus rigorous systems thinking to create and maintain design systems.
• Experience in FinTech or customer-facing digital UI, specifically with payment screens and access systems.
• Proficiency across UX and UI, with a track record of leading design projects from concept to completion.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools for design processes and rapid prototyping.
• Fluent English (the international team's working language).

Nice to have

• Degree in Engineering or Industrial Design.
• Experience with hardware-software interaction, biometrics or complex payment systems.
• Strong command of Figma, Sketch or Adobe XD.
• Previous startup or scale-up experience.
• Setup: initial freelance contract via Shakers + long-term contract
