Job description

Tax Manager / Senior Tax Manager | SME & Business Advisory

A growing, technology-enabled professional services business is seeking a Tax Manager / Senior Tax Manager to join its expanding Accountancy & Advisory team. The successful candidate will support a broad portfolio of entrepreneurs, startups, and owner-managed businesses, providing expert tax guidance alongside wider business advisory support.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tax professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with a commercially focused, client-facing role, working closely with ambitious businesses at various stages of growth.

The Role

This individual will act as a trusted adviser to clients across a range of tax matters while collaborating with colleagues to deliver a seamless accountancy service. The position offers significant exposure to advisory work, client relationship management, and the opportunity to influence how tax services are delivered within a growing business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the tax lead for a portfolio of SME and startup clients, advising on corporation tax, VAT, and personal tax matters.
  • Review and oversee the preparation of tax computations and returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current legislation.
  • Identify and deliver tax planning opportunities, including business structuring, reliefs, allowances, and tax-efficient strategies.
  • Serve as the principal point of contact for client tax queries and provide practical, commercially focused advice.
  • Support business owners with wider financial and operational queries where required, particularly in relation to early-stage and scaling businesses.
  • Advise new clients on appropriate structures and tax considerations during onboarding.
  • Monitor developments in UK tax legislation and communicate relevant changes to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the wider accountancy team to ensure tax considerations are integrated into ongoing client service delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of internal technical resources, guidance notes, and best-practice processes.
  • Mentor and support junior team members where appropriate.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • ACA, ACCA, ATT or CTA qualification, or equivalent.
  • Strong mixed tax experience spanning personal tax, corporation tax and VAT.
  • Experience advising SMEs, startups, and owner-managed businesses within practice, advisory, or outsourced finance environments.
  • Excellent technical knowledge combined with a commercially minded approach.
  • The ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear, practical advice for business owners and non-finance professionals.
  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience using accounting and tax software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • A proactive and solutions-driven mindset with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Leadership capabilities, including experience reviewing work and supporting the development of junior colleagues.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Clear progression opportunities within a high-growth organisation.
  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio of entrepreneurial and owner-managed businesses.
  • Ongoing professional development and technical training.
  • A collaborative, forward-thinking culture with genuine opportunities to influence and shape service delivery.
  • A varied role combining compliance, advisory, and strategic client engagement.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager seeking a broad mixed-tax position with significant client exposure and the chance to play a key role within a growing and ambitious business.
