SALARY: £25,614 per annum FTE (Actual Salary for 30.1 Hours per Week, Term Time Only, £17,818) + Benefits
LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: 30.01 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks). Monday and Thursday 8.30am4.00pm; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8.30am3.10pm.
JOB OVERVIEW
As a Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant you will support students across a range of curriculum subjects, working closely with teaching and non-teaching colleagues to help create an inclusive and structured learning environment.
The Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant will help students participate in the social and academic life of the school, encouraging independence, confidence and progress through individual, small-group and classroom support.
This Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant role also involves monitoring progress, supporting learning programmes, reinforcing positive behaviour and self-esteem, and contributing to safeguarding and safe working practices.
The position offers a stepping stone for a graduate considering a career in teaching, while classroom experience would be an advantage rather than a requirement.

DUTIES
Your duties as the Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant include:
Student Learning Support: Support students individually, in small groups and in class by clarifying instructions, preparing materials, encouraging concentration and helping them complete work
Additional Needs Support: Adapt support to students individual needs, including language, reading, spelling, handwriting, behaviour and physical needs where required, while promoting independence
Catch-Up Sessions: Deliver early morning catch-up sessions for individual students and small groups as directed by the SENCo
Progress Monitoring: Maintain progress records, provide feedback to teachers and contribute to reviews, assessments, IEP targets and learning support programme evaluation
Positive Relationships: Build supportive relationships, promote self-esteem, inclusion and appropriate behaviour, and help students organise themselves, equipment and homework
Team Collaboration: Work with teachers, support colleagues and other professionals, liaising with parents where appropriate and contributing to agreed support programmes
Safeguarding and Safety: Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, school procedures and statutory training requirements
Professional Development: Attend relevant meetings and training, keep up to date with pedagogy, curriculum initiatives and technology, and develop ICT capability to support learning
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
Enthusiastic and calm approach with a genuine interest in working with students who have a variety of additional needs
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Good standard of numeracy and literacy
Ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively with teaching and non-teaching staff
Commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and supporting an inclusive learning environment
DESIRABLE
Previous classroom experience would be an advantage
If currently working in a school, one reference should be from the current Headteacher
