Assistant Buyer Overview
We are working with a successful and growing Electrical business who are looking for an Assistant Buyer to join their Buying team.
The Assistant Buyer will provide key administrative and operational support to the Buying function, helping to ensure product information, systems and processes are accurate, organised and delivered to critical path.
This is a highly organised and task-focused role, working closely with Buyers, Merchandising, Technical, Marketing and suppliers to ensure the smooth development and launch of product.
Assistant Buyer Responsibilities
- Supporting the Buying team throughout the product lifecycle, from initial brief through to product launch.
- Managing and maintaining accurate product, pricing, and SKU data across internal systems.
- Supporting and monitoring the critical path, ensuring key deadlines are met and highlighting any potential risks or delays.
- Coordinating weekly critical path updates and communicating progress to the wider Buying team.
- Coordinating technical assessments, reports, certificates, and approvals, ensuring these are completed accurately and on time.
- Liaising with suppliers to obtain required information and following up on outstanding actions.
- Supporting the accuracy and completeness of product listings and website information.
- Coordinating the movement, organisation and tracking of samples.
- Maintaining range plans and other key buying systems and documentation.
- Collating and reviewing inspection reports, escalating any issues or risks where required.
- Developing a strong understanding of the product range and supporting the wider product development process.
- Providing administrative and organisational support to Buyers ahead of business trips, trade shows and key meetings.
- Working closely with internal teams including Merchandising, Technical, Marketing and Product Development to ensure information is communicated accurately and deadlines are achieved.
Assistant Buyer Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within Assistant Buying, Buying Administration, or similar retail head office role.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong administrative and data management skills.
- Confident working with internal systems, spreadsheets, and product information.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively to tight deadlines.
- Commercially aware with a genuine interest in fashion, product, and the wider retail environment.
- A positive, enthusiastic, and collaborative approach, with the ability to work at pace in a fast-moving environment.
