Job Purpose

To carry out all caring tasks and duties completed by RSWs with vulnerable adults as requested whilst they are living in a residential home. This will be under the instruction and guidance of the Team Leader and management.

Main duties and responsibilities

To work as a member of the team to create a supportive home-like environment, within which supported individuals can live as independently as possible and continue to use all their skills, experience and knowledge for as long as they are able.

As a RSW you are expected to ensure and promote self-help skills, life skills and independence as per each individual care plan.

You are required to develop an awareness and understanding of each individuals care plans and risk assessments and maintain an awareness of changes to individuals needs.

To observe and report, verbally and in writing, to the appropriate Team Leader/management on individuals planned progress (e.g. Social/mental and physical well-being) and to identify areas of risk or concern.

You are required to ensure that health appointments are current and up to date and recorded appropriately within each care plan.

To support service users with the emotional support and guidance where required by means of you being a mentor and a role model to the individuals.

You are required to ensure keyworker sessions are carried out monthly or more frequently if required and that these sessions are recorded, dated and signed (if you are a keyworker).

To ensure that each individuals rights and choices are respected and that consideration is taken where there are identified risks, allowing individuals to take calculated risks with support.

To carry out practical tasks, ensuring the well-being of supported individuals. This will include promoting life skills with individuals such as bed-making, personal laundry and also the availability of their own clean clothing, which is kept neatly in their personal drawers and wardrobes.

To carry out with meeting a range of physical tasks to ensure the residents comfort and well-being, including bathing, cooking, dressing, toileting, changing and assisting people to eat and drink. Other duties will include assistance with shopping, recreational activities, escorting on trips and outing.

You are responsible for ensuring you factually record information in individual care plans and ensure risk assessment are present where you have highlighted an area of concern in accordance with your training and knowledge on each individuals needs.

To ensure the tidiness of each residents room, ensuring appropriate cleaning has been carried out, as well as management of the individuals wardrobe.

You are encouraged to attend staff meetings (minimum of 6 per year) to ensure consistency and appropriate levels of support in meeting all areas of needs for individuals in your care.

You are encouraged to identify any area of training and development that you feel is necessary and appropriate to your role as part of your PDP, highlighting this to your manager.

To be familiar with health and safety matters and know what procedures to follow in cases of fire, accident, service breakdowns and emergencies.

You are required to be flexible in your working hours with assisting Team Leaders and management in ensuring adequate cover for the home.

You must ensure you communicate effectively with Team Leaders/Management on a frequent basis to ensure consistency and to discuss any concerns.

To undertake all other reasonable duties instructed by the authorised management.
