Help Students Stay Engaged, Supported and on track

Every student can face challenges during their time at college. The right support at the right time can help learners overcome barriers, improve their attendance and behaviour, and stay engaged with their studies.

We are looking for a Student Liaison Officer to provide proactive pastoral support to students, with a particular focus on improving attendance, punctuality and engagement. Working closely with students, parents and carers, curriculum teams and support services, you will help learners stay on course and make positive progress towards their goals.

Join Us at an Exciting Time

Stanmore College is undergoing a £60 million redevelopment, creating a modern, sustainable campus with new teaching spaces and facilities for our students. With the new campus taking shape, this is an exciting time to join us and be part of the College's next chapter.

As part of our Student Services team, you will play an important role in creating a positive student experience, working closely with colleagues to provide joined-up support for learners who may be struggling with attendance, behaviour or engagement.

The Role

Working as part of the Student Support team, you will provide visible, proactive support across the College and work directly with students to address barriers to attendance, behaviour and achievement.

You will:
  • Monitor attendance and punctuality, identify patterns of concern and put appropriate support interventions in place.
  • Engage, motivate and mentor students to improve attendance, behaviour and engagement with their studies.
  • Work closely with Personal Tutors, Curriculum Managers and support teams to provide coordinated support for students.
  • Maintain a visible presence across College, particularly at key times, to support positive behaviour and attendance.
  • Work with parents and carers to address attendance and behavioural concerns and support positive outcomes.
  • Deliver one-to-one and occasional group pastoral sessions for students at risk of poor attendance, behavioural concerns or academic failure.
  • Develop and monitor individual attendance and behaviour support plans, including targets and progress reviews.
  • Monitor student behaviour and follow up concerns in liaison with curriculum and support staff.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure student information is kept up to date.
  • S upport induction and initial assessments, helping identify students who may require additional support.
  • Build positive relationships with students and contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Why This Role Matters

Attendance and engagement are closely linked to a student's ability to make progress and achieve their goals. For some learners, improving attendance or behaviour requires consistent encouragement, positive relationships and practical support.

As a Student Liaison Officer, you will have the opportunity to work directly with young people, helping them overcome barriers, build confidence and develop the habits they need to succeed at College and beyond.

About You

You will have experience of working with young people and an understanding of the needs of learners aged 16-19, including those with SEND or other barriers to learning. You will be confident using a coaching or mentoring approach to improve attendance, engagement and behaviour, while maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations.
