Job description

Deputy Director Digital Standards & Inclusive Design
3-month contract | Up to £985 per day | Inside IR35
Manchester - minimum 2 days per week onsite | BPSS
We're seeking an experienced senior digital transformation leader to join a central government organisation and lead the refresh of its digital service standards.
This is a senior leadership role focused on broadening the standards beyond individual GOV.UK transactions, creating a practical framework for wider digital public-service redesign and transformation.
You'll lead a multidisciplinary team of around 15 and work across government and the wider public sector to build engagement, establish the refreshed standards and translate strategy into practical delivery.
We're looking for:

  • Significant experience leading large-scale digital transformation/change programmes within government or the wider public sector.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience working with digital service standards, ideally with lived experience taking services through formal government assurance/gated processes.
  • The ability to operate across strategy, policy and programme delivery, translating strategic objectives into tangible outcomes at pace.
  • Strong leadership and line-management experience, with the ability to get the best from multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Good understanding of service design, accessibility and inclusive digital design.
  • A broad understanding of the public-sector digital and policy landscape, ideally gained across multiple organisations/departments.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can act as a catalyst for change, build credibility quickly and bring stakeholders with them.
Government/public-sector experience is essential, as is the ability to attend the Manchester office a minimum of 2 days per week, with flexibility to attend more frequently when required. There will also be occasional travel to London.
