Take Ownership of Quality in a High-Precision Engineering Environment

Are you an experienced Quality professional with a strong engineering background? Do you enjoy solving manufacturing challenges, improving processes, and working closely with production teams on the shop floor?

We're partnering with a well-established and growing precision engineering manufacturer that supplies high-quality machined components to demanding industries. They are looking for a hands-on Quality Manager to take ownership of quality systems, inspection activities, and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has progressed from a machining, fitting, or engineering background into Quality and wants to play a key role in driving standards, performance, and customer satisfaction.

The Role

As Quality Manager, you'll be responsible for leading all aspects of quality across the manufacturing operation. This is a practical role that combines hands-on inspection expertise with responsibility for maintaining and improving the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Working closely with Production, Engineering, and Senior Management teams, you'll help identify issues, implement solutions, and ensure products consistently meet customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Quality & Inspection

  • Lead and oversee first-off, in-process, and final inspection activities.

  • Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, specifications, and GD&T requirements.

  • Select and verify appropriate inspection methods and measuring equipment.

  • Investigate defects, non-conformances, and manufacturing issues.

  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Reduce scrap, rework, and the overall cost of poor quality.

  • Ensure all measuring equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose.

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Manage and continuously improve the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

  • Maintain quality documentation, procedures, and records.

  • Lead internal and external audits.

  • Ensure compliance with customer, industry, and regulatory standards.

  • Monitor quality performance and implement improvements where required.

Customer & Supplier Quality

  • Act as the primary contact for customer quality concerns and audits.

  • Investigate complaints and ensure timely resolution.

  • Support supplier audits and performance reviews.

  • Work collaboratively with suppliers to improve quality standards.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Support, mentor, and develop the Quality and Inspection team.

  • Promote a strong quality culture throughout the factory.

  • Analyse quality metrics, customer complaints, rejects, and supplier performance.

  • Lead improvement projects using structured problem-solving techniques.

  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to achieve business objectives.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience within a Quality, Inspection, or Quality Management role within precision engineering or manufacturing.

  • Strong understanding of machining and manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T.

  • Hands-on experience using precision measuring equipment.

  • Experience investigating non-conformances and conducting root cause analysis.

  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

  • Experience leading or supporting internal and external audits.

  • Confident communicator who enjoys working closely with shop-floor teams.

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

Desirable Experience

  • HNC, HND, or equivalent engineering qualification.

  • Experience within aerospace, defence, oil & gas, or other high-precision manufacturing environments.

  • Knowledge of CMM, optical measurement systems, or advanced inspection equipment.

What's On Offer?

  • Competitive salary of £40,000 - £45,000, depending on experience.

  • Company pension scheme.

  • On-site parking.

  • Ongoing training and professional development.

  • Clear career progression opportunities within a growing engineering group.

  • The opportunity to make a genuine impact on quality standards, operational performance, and customer satisfaction.
