Semh Teaching Assistant

Job description

SEMH Learning Support Assistant | September Start

Hertford, Hertfordshire | Full-Time | Term Time Only

The Right Person Can Change a Child's Story.

Some children don't just need support with learning—they need someone who believes in them.

Someone who can see beyond the behaviour, build trust, celebrate the small wins, and help them realise what they're capable of.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

An exceptional SEMH school in Hertford is looking for a passionate, resilient, and caring SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join its incredible team this September. This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people while building a rewarding career in a school that is committed to developing both its pupils and its staff.

Why Join This School?

This is a school where relationships come first.

Every member of staff works together to create a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment where pupils feel understood, supported, and empowered to succeed.

You'll be joining a welcoming, experienced, and highly supportive team who celebrate every achievement—whether it's a breakthrough in learning, a positive conversation, or a child taking an important step forward in their emotional development.

No two days are ever the same, but every day brings the chance to make a lasting impact.

The Role

As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence, resilience, and life skills they need to thrive.

You'll:

  • Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that help young people feel safe and valued.
  • Encourage emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour.
  • Support learning both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Help deliver personalised strategies that meet each pupil's individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team to achieve the very best outcomes.
  • Celebrate progress every single day—because every step forward matters.

This is a role where patience, empathy, consistency, and positivity can genuinely transform lives.
