Priory Hospital Southampton
Salary: £170,000
Full Time: 37.5 Hours

Are you ready to make a difference? Priory Hospital Southampton is on the lookout for a passionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dedicated team. This is a permanent position, ideally full-time (37.5 hours per week), but we’re open to part-time and job-share arrangements as well!

Nestled within beautiful, landscaped gardens, our tranquil environment is designed to foster therapeutic and recovery-focused residential treatment for individuals facing various mental health challenges.

Our hospital features:

  • 31 mixed-gender adult acute beds across 2 wards
  • A 13-bed Eating Disorders ward
  • An Eating Disorders day hospital, all catering to NHS patients

With a well-established reputation and a CQC rating of “Good,” we take pride in our commitment to quality care. One of our acute wards is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrist Quality Network for Working Age Adults, and we’re aiming for the other ward to achieve accreditation this year. Our strong partnerships with local NHS Trusts and commissioners enhance our service delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a vital member of our team on the Sandpiper Ward, an 18-bed mixed-gender adult acute inpatient ward, you will play a key role in patient recovery. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing consultant psychiatric care for up to 18 inpatients, conducting comprehensive assessments, leading ward rounds, and delivering high-quality, patient-centered treatment.
  • Offering clinical leadership for the ward, facilitating multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and ensuring safe, recovery-focused care.
  • Supervising and supporting the Specialty Doctor while collaborating with the wider MDT to promote clinical excellence and professional development.
  • Contributing to service development through participation in clinical governance, audits, senior management meetings, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting effective patient flow through regular clinical reviews, risk management, and discharge planning.
What You’ll Bring to the Role

Essential Qualifications:

  • Current GMC Registration
  • Specialist Registration in a Psychiatric Specialty
  • Approved Clinician status, or eligibility to apply for Approved Clinician status

We’re looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist with experience in UK acute inpatient psychiatry, ideally gained within the NHS and/or independent healthcare sector. You should have a strong background in managing patients in an acute mental health inpatient setting and be confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

We welcome applications from experienced Consultants, as well as newly appointed Consultants who can demonstrate substantial inpatient expertise. The ideal candidate will be committed to delivering high-quality patient care, building strong relationships with NHS stakeholders and commissioners, and eager to become an integral member of our local service and medical team.

If you’re considering relocating, we encourage you to apply and support your long-term commitment to our service.
