NCS Assistant Wave Leader
Supporting an exciting NCS residential programme that has lasting results for the young people involved. You will assist the Wave leader throughout the residential programme (5 days), ensuring that safety and pastoral needs of all are met. You will support and empower up to 12 seasonal staff and 48-80 young people in delivering inclusive and engaging sessions throughout the programme and facilitate teams in devising a successful community project.

What are you going to do:
NCS (National Citizen Service) is a government-backed initiative with a mission to equip 15-17-year-olds with the confidence, skills and support they need to make a real difference in their communities. The aim is to encourage young people from different backgrounds to mix through a local, community-based programme.
Twin offers a fixed-term contract and aims to provide longer employment consisting of a few waves. This is, however, subject to the performance on the programme and young people numbers.
Locations: Residential Location, weekly departure from various London area
Pay rate: Residential, £117.20/day
About the role

You will assist the Wave leader throughout the residential programme (5 days), ensuring that the safety and pastoral needs of all are met. You will support and empower up to 12 seasonal staff and 48-80 young people in delivering inclusive and engaging sessions throughout the programme and facilitate teams in devising a successful community project.
An Assistant Wave Leader will assist the Wave Leader in their staff management, administrative responsibilities, providing pastoral support and managing challenging behaviours. This is a great role to gain management experience as part of a team. This role is suitable for an energetic, positive and resilient person who has experience in inspiring, motivating and leading groups of young people and staff wanting to develop their management skills. You will act as a role model, enthusiastically taking on challenges and promoting staff teams and young people to do the same.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, support and participate actively in sessions
- Manage day-to-day issues as they arise and applying sensible solutions
- Provide pastoral support, advice, techniques and creative solutions to ensure staff support young people to engage with the programme
- Build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders (venue reps, community partners and parents) for example confirming taxis for any YPs with additional needs
- Manage sensitive data relating to staff, young people and their families
- Establish rapport and build supportive relationships with staff and young people
- Adhere to the Lights Out policy and liaise with the Wave Leader to ensure young people’s safety during the night
- Support Wave Leader with rotas, and implement that young people are supervised during breaks, meals, free time and at night. Provide floating support to up to 6 teams as required by WL.
- Ensure young people's access and dietary requirements are met in a residential setting
- Work with the Wave Leader to ensure staff are supported through the residential programme, having adequate breaks
- Support the Wave leader in the management of the discipline system when required, potentially taking a lead in the pastoral support of staff and young people.
- Lead by example and ensure all policies and procedures are followed, including but not exclusive to COVID-19, Safeguarding, GDPR and Health and Safety
- Take charge in the absence of the Wave Leader in case of an emergency and inform HQ immediately about any serious incidents and complete Incident Reports
