Blood Transfusion Lead, Perth Royal Infirmary, Band 7

This is an opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Healthcare Scientist to work within the department of Blood Sciences, Diagnostics Laboratories, which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside, NE Fife and South Grampian.

The Blood Sciences Department is based on two sites at Ninewells Hospital Dundee; a large Teaching Hospital and Medical School, that includes the Scottish Bowel Screening Laboratory; and Perth Royal Infirmary. The department has an established team of Clinical, Scientific and Technical staff, and state of the art laboratory analytics including Siemens Atellica Solution, Advia 2120i, ACL TOPS and BioRad IH-500.

We are looking for a keen and enthusiastic member of staff that can demonstrate team spirit, initiative, and flexibility and have proven ability to support further development of the service. The post-holder will work with a considerable degree of autonomy and have the responsibility for providing professional, scientific and technical leadership. They will be responsible for managing a team of multidisciplinary BMS staff. Post qualification professional and personal development is encouraged and supported.

We are looking to recruit a Senior BMS lead for Blood Transfusion at Perth Royal Infirmary (PRI) who will be required to rotate and have a responsibility for the Haematology and Biochemistry service as part of the senior leadership team. Participation in the multidisciplinary out of hours service, including overnight, weekend, early evening and Public Holiday duties will be required, and the post-holder will need to have the ability to work flexibility between PRI and Ninewells site where required.

The post-holder will be expected to work closely with the other senior BMS, and the Blood Sciences Associate Service Managers to ensure high quality service delivery to MHRA compliance, ISO accreditation standards, and maintain UKAS accreditation. The department also holds IBMS Training lab approval, and the post-holder will support training to all grades of staff.

You must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and must have worked at BMS Band 6 [Specialist BMS] in a Blood Sciences laboratory discipline with experience in Blood Transfusion. You must hold an MSc. or working towards completion of this and / or have completed the IBMS Specialist portfolio; or have extensive post registration laboratory experience.
