Theatre Practitioner - Theatre / Recovery / Day Surgery in Glasgow Royal Infirmary
Job description
There are a number exciting positions that have arisen within the Theatre and Anaesthetic departments in the North Sector of GG&C. These are both within Theatre, anaesthetic and recovery nursing posts with an opportunity to become dual trained in these areas. You will work within a team of over 320 staff members and 28 theatres including 2 emergency theatres that run 24/7.
The sites are primarily in Glasgow Royal Infirmary, voted the Best Hospital in Scotland (in top 200 worldwide) and Stobhill ACH Hospital with outreach services to the Golden Jubilee Hospital. All hospitals part of Glasgow Universities placements.
Within the North there are opportunities to gain and develop specialist skills within regional service surgeries and anaesthesia. These includes Upper and Abdominal GI surgery, Burns and Plastics, Specialist Orthopaedic and Gynaecology surgery. Within the recovery areas advanced respiratory non-invasive skills and Intensive skills can be developed with opportunities to work within areas for personal development.
The Theatre & Anaesthetic offers exciting opportunities for staff development through clinical vocational course and working towards making North Glasgow the first Theatre Academy in GG&C
As part of this team your continuing development is forefront with access to further education and leadership development with internal support with vocational modules via SVQ scheme and yearly grants available for conference contributions or Master programmes. There is a robust career structure within Theatres North.
As part of the multidisciplinary team you will have responsibility for assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care and the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients within the perioperative department. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC trained in general nursing or adult nursing. Opportunities are also available for newly qualified staff.
You will provide clinical leadership for the assessment of patient needs, implementation and evaluation of care, which are evidence based. Utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others. You will empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well-being and future lifestyle by practicing in an open, transparent and inclusive manner; thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
The ability to work on your own initiative but also as part of an integrated team is required. You are required to demonstrate flexibility by working within a service which presently runs over a five day week. Furthermore, you will be expected where necessary to engage in multi-site working within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in order to achieve the needs of the service. As part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s pre-employment checking for all appointed candidates, evidence of current NMC registration will be required prior to start date. You should therefore note candidates who are unable to provide confirmation of current NMC registration, in line with projected start date for this post, may not be shortlisted for interview.
