Instinct is working with a long-standing and prestigious education client who are looking to recruit for a Head of Learning Technology. This is a newly-created, pivotal role within a long-term, high-impact transformation programme that’s redefining how the institution delivers global online and distance education.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead on and shape the digital foundation of a major academic initiative, working at scale, with senior backing, and a clear mandate to innovate. The organisation currently has a strong commercial education arm which works to deliver top-quality global programmes to thousands of students in nearly 40 countries. With impressive revenues and a wide global reach, the institution is now embarking on an ambitious rebuild of its distance learning infrastructure—and this role will play a central role in defining what that looks like. The programme includes:

  • A full technology discovery phase
  • A strategic decision around whether to buy new, build, or integrate new learning technologies
  • A phased systems implementation
  • Full go-live scheduled for September 2029

This role will be starting at the infancy stage of this transformation, and the successful post-holder will have significant influence on the eventual direction selected. The redesign of the digital ecosystem will include the review of:

  • Learning management systems (LMS)
  • Student record systems
  • CRMs
  • Assessment platforms
  • Learning analytics tools
  • Systems for academic integrity, accessibility, and compliance

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working with cross functional teams including those in academia, operations, and technology to define system needs
  • Leading on the overall tech strategy and roadmap
  • Leading the discovery and selection of systems and tools
  • Overseeing procurement and implementation stages
  • Building and managing your own team
  • Managing strategy around integrating with the university’s core IT systems
  • Ensuring full compliance with GDPR, accessibility laws, and international education standards

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience leading digital transformation or systems delivery at scale (e.g. Education, edtech, public sector, commercial training, or global platforms)
  • Strong understanding of enterprise system procurement, development, and integration
  • Ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks including data protection, accessibility, and international regulation
  • Experience in or exposure to transnational education is a plus

Aside from a salary of up to £80,000 per annum, the institution also offers a range of excellent benefits. For more information, please register your interest by submitting your CV.

We’re expecting a high level of interest in this role and will do our best to respond to everyone. However, please note that it may take a little longer than usual to get back to all applicants. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
