About Us:

The Help to Grow: Management Course is a government-backed initiative delivered in partnership with leading UK business schools. It’s designed to equip small business leaders with the tools, knowledge, and networks they need to grow and thrive. With over 8,000 SMEs already engaged, we’re expanding our alumni programme to deepen long-term impact.

About the Role:

We’re seeking a strategic and entrepreneurial senior leader to shape and deliver our Alumni Strategy for the Help to Grow: Management course. As Head of Alumni Strategy and Delivery, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving forward an ambitious plan for alumni engagement — curating a distinctive UK-wide portfolio of events, content, and networks that support our alumni’s growth journey beyond the course.

You’ll lead the strategic development and operational delivery of a tailored alumni offering aligned with government objectives, curriculum outcomes, and emerging business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a future-focused alumni strategy for Year 5 and beyond.
  • Lead the development of segmented alumni engagement plans and research-driven support initiatives.
  • Align alumni development with wider government SME strategy and write proposals for senior approval.
  • Build and deepen partnerships with stakeholders, universities, and delivery partners across the UK.
  • Collaborate with curriculum leads, advisory councils, and academic experts to develop alumni-facing content that enhances and complements the core course modules.
  • Work closely with the Head of Marketing and Demand Generation to shape compelling outreach campaigns.
  • Oversee segmentation and policy intervention delivery across alumni cohorts.
  • Lead the production of a national alumni event programme, including 4 major UK events and a year-round webinar series.
  • Line manage the Senior Producer and Partnerships Manager to secure high-quality speakers, content, and venues.
  • Ensure all communications and events maintain exceptional service standards, with high engagement and measurable outcomes.
  • Monitor and report on alumni engagement data and trends, using insights to shape future offerings and extend the programme’s lifecycle.
  • Manage alumni funding budgets and resource allocation in collaboration with senior leadership.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in alumni engagement, knowledge exchange, or similar roles in higher education, trade associations, or commercial membership organisations.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building and managing high-performing teams.
  • Strong background in event production, programme development, and strategic delivery.
  • Experience working closely with marketing and communications teams to generate compelling content and campaigns.
  • Skilled at managing multiple stakeholders, with exceptional collaboration and influencing abilities.
  • Commercially savvy, with budget and operations management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and confident in producing formal strategy papers and presentations.
  • Strategic thinker with outstanding project and portfolio management skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in developing sponsorship or partnership packages.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and using data for engagement strategy development.
  • Knowledge of SME challenges and policy frameworks supporting their growth.

Why Join Us?

You’ll be at the forefront of shaping a national alumni network that fuels the growth of UK SMEs. Working alongside senior leaders, academics, and government stakeholders, you’ll help small businesses succeed and drive lasting economic impact. This is a unique opportunity to build a legacy through meaningful engagement, world-class events, and sector-leading content.
