About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Research Officer to join our Research & Policy team. You will support the delivery of research activities, data analysis, and the production of impactful reports that benefit our members and support our lobbying work.
You’ll lead and support primary research projects, analyse higher education datasets, and draft consultation responses and briefing papers. This role is ideal for someone with a strong research background who wants to see their work shape policy and support the UK business and management education sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and draft high-quality reports for publication to influence policymakers, members, stakeholders, and the media.
- Analyse UK higher education datasets (e.g., HESA, NSS) to support research reports, dashboards, and policy positions.
- Design, administer, and analyse regular and ad-hoc surveys such as the Annual Membership and Pulse Surveys.
- Draft written responses to government consultations and support the development of position papers.
- Provide administrative support to key committees and stakeholder working groups.
- Engage with Chartered ABS members to identify research needs and inform future projects.
- Provide project management support for key initiatives like the Academic Journal Guide, including metric development and data reviews.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content.
- Highly numerate, with excellent analytical and logical thinking skills.
- Experience in a research, policy, or data analysis role.
- Proficient in survey design, quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
- Degree-level education or equivalent.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working with HESA, Heidi Plus, or similar higher education datasets.
- Experience working in an educational institution, policy organisation, consultancy, or government body.
- Knowledge of the UK higher education and/or business and management education landscape.
- Familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience servicing committees or working groups.
