Location: SE1 - South east London
Pay: £101.40 - £105 per day
Schedule: Term-time only, Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 15:45
Trial Days: Available end of Summer term and early September
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils aged 5–11 who may present with anxiety, attachment needs, trauma backgrounds, or behavioural difficulties
- Use therapeutic, relational, and trauma-informed approaches to help children regulate emotions and engage positively with learning
- Build trusted relationships with pupils who may struggle to access mainstream education
- Provide 1:1 and small group support across the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
- Help embed structure, routine, and emotional safety for vulnerable children
- Use visual aids, sensory resources, and clear communication to support understanding and behaviour
This role is ideal for graduates or early career professionals considering careers in:
- Child Psychology or Educational Psychology
- Youth Mental Health or CAMHS
- Social Work or Family Support
- SEN or Inclusion Advisory roles
- Teaching or Behaviour Intervention
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored academic and emotional support to children with SEMH and additional learning needs
- Support children with developing emotional literacy, resilience, and positive peer relationships
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to ensure children’s EHCP or pastoral targets are met
- Help implement positive behaviour support plans, sensory strategies, and regulation techniques
- Support children during transitions, unstructured times, and crisis moments with calm, consistent care
- Complete training in behaviour de-escalation and trauma-informed practice
Person Specification – We’re Looking For:
- Graduates in Psychology, Education, Child Development, or related subjects
- Aspiring professionals in child therapy, mental health, SEND, or social care
- Empathetic, patient individuals with a passion for inclusion and early intervention
- Experience in schools, youth work, or care settings is helpful but not essential
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and a calm, grounded approach to behaviour
You Will Need:
- A nurturing and emotionally resilient mindset
- A genuine desire to help children feel safe and succeed
- An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
