SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH Support (Year 2)

Contract: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent

Hours: Term-time only

We are recruiting on behalf of a supportive primary school in Lewisham for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work with three pupils in Year 2 who present with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and challenging behaviour. This is a full-time position, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
• Implement tailored strategies to promote positive behaviour and engagement.
• Support pupils’ emotional regulation, resilience, and social development.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to deliver personalised learning.
• Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.

Requirements:

• Proven experience supporting children with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour (essential).
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
• Full-time availability (term-time only).
• Valid Right to Work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential).
