About The School

We are working with a rapidly developing secondary school within a high-performing multi-academy trust, currently sharing facilities with a top flagship school. The schools ethos is underpinned by high expectations, academic rigour, and a commitment to Achievement for All. The Trust has a reputation for excellence, strong collaboration between its schools, and a clear focus on developing curriculum, leadership, and outcomes in core subjects (especially Maths, English & Science).

We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious educational leader with subject expertise in mathematics, who will take responsibility for leading the Maths department while also contributing to whole-school leadership and strategic development.

Role Purpose

The Assistant Principal (Mathematics Lead) will:

  • Serve as the lead for mathematics across the school (Key Stages 3–4), driving excellence in teaching, learning, curriculum, assessment and outcomes.
  • Operate as a member of the senior leadership team (SLT), contributing to whole-school strategic planning, improvement, and operational leadership.
  • Support the Headteacher / Principal in raising standards, ensuring consistency of high expectations, and maintaining a positive culture of accountability and professional growth.
  • Champion pedagogical innovation, staff development, and data-driven decision making within mathematics and beyond.
  • Play an active role in Trust-wide collaboration, professional networks, and the sharing of best practice.
  • Occasionally deputise for senior leaders, as appropriate, and lead specific school initiatives (e.g. Assessment, intervention, transition, curriculum review).

As Mathematics Lead

  • Lead the design, implementation and continual refinement of a coherent, ambitious mathematics curriculum, ensuring vertical progression, strong assessment practices, and readiness for further study.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance data; identify trends, gaps, and actions; ensure intervention strategies are timely and effective.
  • Model outstanding mathematics teaching, plan and lead CPD, coaching and mentoring for mathematics colleagues.
  • Manage the maths teaching team: conduct line management, performance reviews, recruitment, deployment, and resource planning.
  • Ensure alignment of pedagogical approaches and consistency of practice across all mathematics classes.
  • Oversee setting policy, tracking, and reporting for mathematics.
  • Liaise with other subjects / cross-curricular teams to promote numeracy, coherence, and mathematics across the school (e.g. Data analysis in other subjects, maths in STEM, cross-subject projects).

As Assistant Principal / SLT Member

  • Contribute to the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the school improvement plan (SIP) / strategic plan.
  • Lead, manage or support specific school-wide initiatives (e.g. Assessment systems, behaviour & rewards, transition, quality assurance).
  • Participate in the school’s leadership, evaluation, and accountability processes (e.g. Learning walks, book looks, data reviews, benchmarking).
  • Oversee pastoral or academic “areas of responsibility” (if delegated) in collaboration with other senior staff.
  • Engage with stakeholders: parents, governors / trustees, external partners, and the Trust’s leadership.
  • Support recruitment and induction of new staff, promote a strong culture of professional development and collaboration.
  • Be a visible presence around school, championing ethos, student expectations, and safeguarding / welfare practices.
