Job description

We are seeking an outstanding Head of English to lead our high-performing English department and drive excellence across our 16–18 study programmes. This is a pivotal leadership role within the college, responsible for shaping curriculum strategy, raising achievement, and ensuring exceptional teaching, learning, and assessment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and operational management of the English curriculum for 16–18 learners.
• Lead and develop a team of English teachers, promoting a culture of high expectations, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Use data-driven approaches to monitor performance, target interventions, and secure high-quality learner outcomes.
• Work collaboratively with senior leaders and other curriculum areas to support whole-college priorities.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and funding requirements and contribute to college-wide improvement initiatives.

About You

We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking leader who is passionate about delivering outstanding English provision in FE. The successful candidate will have:

• Proven experience in a Further Education (FE) college as a Head of Department, Curriculum Manager, or equivalent senior curriculum leader.
• A strong track record of improving outcomes and leading successful teams.
• Excellent understanding of FE curriculum pathways and the needs of 16–18 learners.
• Exceptional communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
• A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and learner success.
