Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job description

A building services design team is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their London office. Ideal candidates will have strong experience in mechanical building services design and be Chartered or working towards Chartership.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to mechanical design strategy and carry out design calculations.
• Produce drawings, schematics, specifications, and schedules.
• Ensure designs meet relevant standards, regulations, and energy‑efficiency requirements.
• Lead M&E project delivery, including coordination and attending meetings.
• Review work of junior engineers and support their development.
• Build strong relationships with clients and design teams.
• Provide multidisciplinary input and support sustainability goals.

Skills & Experience

• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and building systems.
• Good communication, organisation, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to explain design decisions clearly.
• Experience with software such as Hevacomp/IES, Barbour Index, Microsoft Office.
• Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical/Building Services/Architectural Engineering.
• Project management experience in a similar role.

Desirable:

• CAD or modelling software experience (e.g., AutoCAD, IES).
• Knowledge of low‑carbon design, renewable technologies, BREEAM, or similar.

Personal Qualities

• Analytical, methodical, detail‑focused.
• Proactive, collaborative, and able to take initiative.
• Interest in sustainability, new technologies, or building design.
