Renewable Heating Mechanical Designer

Surface Renewables is looking for a Renewable Heating Mechanical Designer

Job description

Are you passionate about sustainable energy solutions and want to play a pivotal role in the transition towards renewable heating and cooling systems? We are seeking a skilled and experienced Renewable Heating and Cooling Mechanical Designer to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of our company while making a positive impact on the environment. Note we will expect you to be on site and commutable from West Ealing, London at least 3 days per week.

Company Overview: Surface Renewables is a leading provider of renewable energy solutions in the UK. We specialize in the design, installation, and maintenance of sustainable heating and cooling systems. With a commitment to environmental responsibility and cutting-edge technology, we strive to deliver innovative solutions that reduce carbon emissions and promote energy efficiency.

Responsibilities

Surface Renewables is looking for a Mechanical Designer to join our growing technical team.

You’ll develop radiant ceiling and underfloor designs, complete heat-loss calculations, and produce coordinated mechanical layouts for high-end residential projects across the UK.

Your designs will help create homes that are comfortable, quiet, and energy-efficient — the perfect indoor climate powered by renewable technology. Key responsibilities include:

  • Design radiant ceiling panels, underfloor heating, and MVHR systems for bespoke residential projects.
  • Complete heat-loss and cooling load calculations using our design software and project data.
  • Prepare schematic drawings, mechanical layouts, and technical documentation for client approval.
  • Liaise with architects, contractors, and our installation partners to ensure design intent and buildability.
  • Produce material schedules and assist with project quotations and cost estimates.
  • Support R&D and new product evaluation (radiant panels, MVHR, controls).
  • Contribute to internal continuous improvement — refining standards, templates, and calculation methods.
  • Align designs with our brand promise: Healthy homes inside and out.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years’ experience in mechanical design — ideally with exposure to radiant heating/cooling or MVHR systems. IF not we will train you in these systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of renewable heating and cooling systems, including, solar thermal, heat pumps, and ventilation systems
  • Competent in AutoCAD or Revit, and Excel-based calculations.
  • Detail-focused, proactive, and confident communicating with architects and contractors.
  • Passionate about sustainability and wellbeing in building design.
