This role is strictly for an experienced Senior Data Centre Design Manager.

Candidates without senior-level, hyperscale data centre design management experience will not be considered.

We are seeking a Senior Data Centre Design Manager (Mechanical) to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary design delivery across large-scale, mission-critical data centre developments in Europe.

This is a hands-on senior leadership role, responsible for owning the design process from early concept and permitting through construction, commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST), within an owner-operator development environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multi-disciplinary design teams (CSA, MEPH, ICT) on hyperscale data centre projects
  • Act as the senior technical authority for mechanical systems while coordinating all other disciplines
  • Manage and review Basis of Design (BoD), drawings, specifications and design deliverables
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, change control and design gating processes
  • Own the design schedule, aligning with procurement, tender and construction milestones
  • Interface with contractors, commissioning agents, vendors, authorities and internal stakeholders
  • Manage design change, risk, cost and programme impacts
  • Co-manage commissioning activities and lead Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
  • Support value engineering, vendor selection and OFCI equipment specifications

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Senior-level experience as a Data Centre Design Manager is mandatory
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (postgraduate qualification advantageous)
  • Strong background in data centre or highly serviced, mission-critical buildings
  • Proven delivery of large-scale developments (€250m+)
  • Extensive experience managing hyperscale, multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Strong understanding of CSA, MEPH and ICT integration
  • Experience with commissioning and complex building systems (liquid cooling knowledge highly desirable)
  • Familiarity with BIM, ACC/BIM 360, Revit, Bluebeam and design governance processes
  • Ability to confidently challenge, defend and communicate technical decisions at senior level
  • Willingness to travel internationally (up to ~25%)

What This Role Is Not

  • Not a junior or mid-level Design Manager role
  • Not discipline-only or consultancy-support focused
  • This is a true senior owner-side data centre design leadership position
