Cyber Security Manager

GCS is looking for a Cyber Security Manager

Job description

Cyber Security Manager £50,000 | Luton Based - Remote | Education Sector

Recent cyber-attacks across the UK education sector have made one thing impossible to ignore: protecting schools is no longer a background concern; it's urgent, it's personal, and it matters deeply.

This is a newly created role, built from a genuine recognition that the people who look after our most vulnerable young people deserve someone equally committed to looking after them.

Why this role exists

You'll take full ownership of cybersecurity across a group of specialists' schools, not as a checkbox exercise, but as a real act of care. The data, safety, and trust of children, families, and educators will be in your hands.

This is a hands-on leadership role with:

  • Real authority — a single point of accountability across the organisation
  • Real visibility — direct reporting to senior leadership and the board
  • Real purpose — work that underpins safeguarding for young people with unique learning needs

What you'll be doing

  • Owning cyber security end-to-end across a multi-site school environment
  • Leading incident response and cyber risk management
  • ✅ Driving Cyber Essentials compliance and NCSC best practice
  • ☁ Overseeing Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace security posture
  • Managing MSPs and third-party vendor risk
  • Embedding genuine cyber awareness across non-technical teams
  • Reporting clearly and confidently to senior leadership and the board

What we're looking for

We're not hunting for a perfect CV — we're looking for someone sharp, communicative, and motivated by purpose over prestige.

Experience & skills:

  • 4–6 years in IT and/or Cyber Security
  • Strong Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace security knowledge
  • Hands-on experience managing MSPs and third-party vendors
  • Familiarity with Cyber Essentials, NCSC, or ISO frameworks

The kind of person you are:

  • A clear, confident communicator who can translate complexity into plain English
  • Pragmatic and hands-on — you're as comfortable doing as you are leading
  • Calm under pressure, especially during incidents
  • Genuinely motivated by the idea of protecting people, not just systems
  • DBS-check eligible (essential due to safeguarding responsibilities)

What's on offer

  • £50,000 salary + benefits
  • Fully remote, UK-based with occasional travel
  • Funded CPD and ongoing professional development
  • Real autonomy and ownership from day one
  • ❤ A role with genuine impact — the kind you'll actually feel

If you've been looking for a cyber security role that means something, this might be it.
