Job description

Mechanical Craft Team Member

Newport

£Competitive Salary + Benefits

An established industrial manufacturer is seeking a Mechanical Craft Team Member to join its Cranes & Lifting department at a major steel production site. This is a practical, hands-on role where you will play a key part in ensuring critical lifting equipment remains safe, reliable and fully operational within a busy and safety-focused manufacturing environment.

Working as part of a skilled maintenance team, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, fault finding and repair work across a variety of lifting equipment used throughout the plant. The role involves supporting the safe and efficient operation of the site by ensuring all work is completed to a high technical and safety standard. You will actively contribute to maintaining a strong safety culture by ensuring all activities comply with relevant risk assessments, procedures and industry regulations. Alongside day-to-day maintenance responsibilities, you will support the team leader with planning work activities, coordinating resources and maintaining accurate maintenance records within a CMMS system such as SAP. The role also provides opportunities to share your experience by supporting the development of colleagues through on-the-job training and coaching. From time to time, you may also deputise for the Area Team Leader, offering the chance to further develop leadership and organisational skills within a supportive team environment.

The successful candidate will be a time-served Mechanical apprentice with solid hands-on experience in an industrial maintenance environment. Experience working on lifting equipment and an understanding of relevant safety regulations such as PUWER and LOLER will be important for this role. You will be comfortable working at height and in a safety-critical setting, and able to communicate clearly while supporting and guiding other members of the team. Basic IT skills and experience recording or managing maintenance activity are also expected. Familiarity with maintenance management systems such as SAP, experience with EOT crane maintenance, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement would be advantageous.

This opportunity provides the chance to join a well-established industrial organisation with a strong commitment to safety, employee development and operational excellence, working within a collaborative engineering team that supports critical manufacturing operations.
