Are you a senior HSE leader with strong experience in REACH compliance, environmental management and driving carbon and cost reduction strategies?

We are supporting a well-established, global manufacturing business based in Portsmouth that is looking to appoint a Head of HSE to lead their UK operations and support global alignment.

What’s the role all about?

This is a senior leadership position responsible for shaping and delivering the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental strategy across manufacturing operations.

A key focus of this role will be environmental compliance, REACH and COSHH governance, and driving measurable improvements in carbon reduction, energy efficiency and cost of poor quality across the business.

You will work closely with senior leadership, engineering, production and global teams to embed a proactive, data-led HSE culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of HSE strategy across UK operations
  • Ensure full compliance with REACH, COSHH, waste management and environmental legislation
  • Drive initiatives focused on carbon reduction, energy efficiency and sustainable manufacturing
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cost of poor quality, waste and environmental impact
  • Implement and maintain ISO standards including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
  • Act as the subject matter expert on environmental compliance, advising stakeholders at all levels
  • Lead audits, inspections and incident investigations, ensuring robust corrective actions
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering and production teams to improve processes and reduce environmental impact
  • Develop and deliver HSE training and promote behavioural safety initiatives
  • Provide clear reporting and insight to senior leadership on HSE performance, risks and improvement opportunities
  • Support global HSE alignment across international sites

What you’ll need

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Significant experience in a senior HSE leadership role within manufacturing or engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of REACH, COSHH and environmental regulations
  • Proven experience driving environmental management systems and ISO 14001 implementation
  • A track record of delivering carbon reduction, sustainability or environmental improvement programmes
  • Experience linking HSE performance to cost, efficiency and operational improvement
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent), with CMIOSH preferred
  • Experience managing complex or high-risk manufacturing processes
  • Strong leadership, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills
