Job description

We are looking to recruit a SHEQ Advisor to join our Health & Safety team on a site based project near Dunbar.


This role will focus on supporting day-to-day SHEQ activity on site, ensuring standards are maintained and that work is carried out safely, in line with company procedures and legal requirements.


The Role

You will be working closely with site teams and management to promote safe working practices and ensure compliance across all SHEQ areas.

Key responsibilities include:


  • Carrying out regular SHEQ inspections on site and reporting findings
  • Challenging and stopping unsafe working practices where required
  • Supporting the implementation of the company’s SHEQ management systems and procedures
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of safety plans
  • Supporting the SHEQ Manager with reviews and updates of SHEQ procedures and documentation
  • Carrying out drugs and alcohol testing when required
  • Attending site safety meetings and supporting SHEQ discussions
  • Delivering toolbox talks and promoting safe working practices on site
  • Supporting communication between site teams and the SHEQ function
  • Investigating minor incidents and reporting findings
  • Assisting with the preparation of method statements and risk assessments
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies where required and keeping up to date with industry guidance


About You

We are looking for someone who is confident on site, approachable, and able to work independently while building strong working relationships.

You will have:


  • Experience in a SHEQ role within civil engineering, earthworks, or similar
  • A strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation
  • Good communication skills and the ability to influence others
  • A proactive approach and the confidence to challenge where necessary
  • The ability to manage your own workload in a site-based environment


Requirements

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
  • IOSH membership (GradIOSH / CMIOSH preferred)
  • Experience on infrastructure or heavy civil projects
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel to other sites across Scotland and England as required
