Clinical Educator‐Paediatrics‐Undergraduate Medical EducationThe closing date is 23 April 2026
Clinical Educator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, effective, and high‐quality education of medical students within paediatrics. Acting as the educational lead for allocated programmes, the postholder designs, delivers, and evaluates teaching across a range of clinical and classroom settings, using expertise in curriculum planning, simulation, and clinical practice. By supporting students in the acquisition of essential clinical, communication, and reasoning skills, the educator safeguards patient safety, ensuring that learners are competent and appropriately supervised when engaging with children and families. The role also has a strong pastoral component, guiding students through challenges and escalating concerns where professionalism or wellbeing may impact on safe practice. In addition, the educator contributes to educational governance, aligning local teaching with GMC standards and national policy, while networking with senior clinicians to embed education into daily practice.
Main duties of the jobThe Clinical Educator will lead, plan, and deliver high‐quality education for medical students within paediatrics, ensuring that teaching aligns with University curricula and Trust standards. They will design and facilitate learning through bedside teaching, simulation, clinical skills sessions, and classroom‐based teaching, adapting methods to meet diverse learner needs. The postholder will act as the main point of contact for students during placements, providing supervision, feedback, and support to ensure clinical competence is achieved safely. They will monitor learner progress, conduct assessments, and raise concerns regarding professionalism or fitness to practice where required, safeguarding both patients and students. The educator will provide pastoral support, helping students navigate academic and personal challenges that may affect their learning. They will contribute to educational governance, evaluate learner feedback, and implement improvements to enhance the quality of the student experience. The role also involves close collaboration with senior clinicians, medical schools, and training bodies to integrate education into clinical practice.

Job responsibilities
Inspire and develop the next generation of doctors by leading high‐quality paediatric teaching.
Deliver engaging learning through bedside teaching, simulation, clinical skills, and classroom sessions.
Ensure patient safety by supervising students closely and embedding national standards in practice.
Provide guidance, feedback, and pastoral support to medical students during their placements.
Play a key role in assessing learners, supporting progression, and addressing professionalism concerns.
Contribute to curriculum development and bring innovation to paediatric education.
Collaborate with senior clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to integrate teaching into everyday care.
Drive continuous improvement by evaluating learner feedback and shaping future programmes.
Empower students to become doctors who are confident in their approach to children and young people in any speciality or department and to consider a career in paediatrics.
Person SpecificationQualifications
Registered healthcare professional e.g. Nurse, midwife, allied health professional.
Has completed a degree in nursing/midwifery/other relevant subject or equivalent.
Certificate in teaching and assessing.
Physical skills assessment training (or equivalent) or willing to undertake within first year of the role.
Evidence of study at level 7 (Masters) level e.g. Postgraduate certificate of clinical/medical education/PGCE or willingness to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate of Medical Education within the first three years of the role.
Diploma or Masters in Medical/Clinical Education or equivalent.
Special Requirements
Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post.

Detailed understanding of curriculum development including the generation of learning outcomes.
Proven skills in delivery, facilitation development and evaluation of training programmes.
Demonstrate the ability to engage and build effective relationships in stakeholder organisations.
Experience
Significant clinical experience working with children and young people within a relevant field.
Educational knowledge acquired through experience and study.
Experience of mentorship, clinical teaching and providing support and feedback to a range of learners.
Proven experience of delivering clinical skills training & support in a variety of settings.
Leadership experience within a clinical or educational field.
Statutory Registration
NMC, HCPC or equivalent.
