Mechanical Engineer

Location: Stroud


KO2’s client, a fast-growing and innovative technology company in Stroud, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the development of advanced, next-generation, electronic products. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative engineering team working across the full product lifecycle in a dynamic, high-growth environment. The successful candidate will be required to go through SC Clearance, if you hold it already that is a bonus.


The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical design activities from initial concept through to production handover. You’ll work closely with electronics, software, and manufacturing engineers to develop robust, high-performance devices suited to real-world applications, with a strong focus on efficiency, size, and weight constraints.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual design activities, generating innovative mechanical solutions
  • Define device specifications in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Deliver detailed design using CAD, including assemblies and technical drawings
  • Develop, build, and test prototype units, iterating designs based on performance and feedback
  • Support design for manufacture (DFM) and transition to production, including supplier engagement
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and product performance


Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer within product development environments
  • Strong experience taking products from concept through to production
  • Expertise in low power, lightweight design, ideally for compact or portable devices
  • Solid understanding of materials selection, thermal management, and mechanical analysis
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
  • Knowledge or exposure to optical engineering principles would be advantageous
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Ability to achieve SC clearance


Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with precision components or opto-mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes (injection moulding, machining, etc.)
  • Understanding of tolerance analysis and environmental testing
