JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Care Assistant is responsible for delivering high-quality, person-centred care while providing leadership and support to care staff. You will ensure care is delivered safely, effectively, and in line with Easdale Healthcare policies, Care Inspectorate standards, and individual care plans. You will act as a key link between carers, the Care Coordinator, and the Care Manager, helping maintain service quality, compliance, and continuity of care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Care Delivery
- Provide hands-on care and support to clients in their own homes
- Deliver care in line with individual care plans, risk assessments, and preferences
- Support with personal care, medication, nutrition, mobility, and emotional wellbeing
- Promote independence, dignity, and choice at all times
2. Staff Support & Supervision
- Act as a role model for carers and promote best practice
- Support, mentor, and guide care staff during shifts
- Assist with shadowing, inductions, and competency checks for new staff
- Provide feedback to the Care Coordinator/Manager on staff performance
3. Medication Management
- Administer and record medication in line with policy and MAR charts
- Ensure medication procedures are followed safely and accurately
- Report and document any medication errors or concerns immediately
4. Quality & Compliance
- Carry out spot checks, observations, and supervisions
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation (daily notes, MARs, body maps, incident reports)
- Monitor care delivery to ensure compliance with Care Inspectorate standards and company policies
5. Communication & Coordination
- Liaise with families, social workers, and healthcare professionals
- Report changes in client condition or concerns promptly
- Support with rota cover and urgent staffing issues where required
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to service improvement
6. Safeguarding & Risk Management
- Identify and report safeguarding concerns in line with policy
- Ensure risks are identified, documented, and managed appropriately
- Promote a safe working environment for clients and staff
7. On-Call / Senior Duties (if applicable)
- Support on-call duties on a rota basis
- Respond to emergencies, staff absences, and client issues
- Ensure continuity of care during out-of-hours periods
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Strong understanding of care-at-home services
- Good leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and make decisions
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (preferred)
- Registration with SSSC or willingness to register
DESIRABLE
- Experience supervising staff
- Knowledge of Care Inspectorate requirements
- Experience with care planning and audits
