Mechanical Estimator (Contract - Potential to Go Permanent)

London

Day Rate / Salary: Competitive (DOE)

An established M&E contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join its pre-construction team on a contract basis, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent role.


Role Overview

You will take responsibility for the preparation and development of mechanical tenders, working on projects typically valued up to £6m, with the potential for larger schemes.

This role requires someone who can work independently, producing accurate and competitive tenders from first principles.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for projects up to £6m+
  • Use Ensign estimating software to produce accurate cost plans and submissions
  • Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
  • Carry out detailed take-offs and build-ups from first principles
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options
  • Support tender adjudications and handover to delivery teams


Experience & Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the UK M&E sector
  • Strong experience using Ensign estimating software
  • Ability to produce tenders independently from initial enquiry through to submission
  • Experience pricing projects up to £6m (or similar scale)
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services

  • Commercially aware with a methodical approach
  • Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
