Interim Health & Safety Manager (3-Month Contract)
Location: South East England (Kent, Surrey & Sussex)
Contract: Interim (3 months, with potential extension)
Start Date: Immediate
Working Pattern: Hybrid (to be agreed at interview)
Overview
We are currently supporting South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) in the appointment of 3 Interim Health & Safety Managers to provide immediate leadership across a complex NHS environment.
This is a senior operational role, responsible for ensuring statutory compliance, managing incidents, and providing expert Health & Safety assurance to senior stakeholders across multiple sites.
You will act as the Trust’s competent person under Health & Safety legislation, operating autonomously and influencing at senior level.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert leadership and advice on all aspects of Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and NHS standards
- Lead incident reporting, investigation and learning (including RIDDOR)
- Conduct risk assessments, audits and inspections across multiple sites
- Manage and contribute to the Health & Safety risk register
- Analyse data and produce reports for senior stakeholders and committees
- Review, develop and implement Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Liaise with external regulators and key stakeholders
- Promote and embed a positive safety culture across the organisation
These responsibilities reflect the Trust’s requirement for robust incident management, audit, and regulatory compliance systems.
Key Requirements
- NEBOSH (or equivalent) qualification
- CMIOSH (or working towards Chartered status)
- Proven experience within NHS or complex healthcare environments
- Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
- Experience in incident investigation and risk management systems
- Confident engaging with senior stakeholders and regulators
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

- Immediate availability is essential
- Travel required across Kent, Surrey & Sussex (own vehicle required)
- Expenses reimbursed in line with Agenda for Change
