As the organisation continues to develop and grow, we are seeking an experienced and committed Non-Executive Board Member to strengthen our governance, oversight, and strategic direction.

The Role

As a Non-Executive Board Member, you will play an important role in supporting the long-term success, accountability, and sustainability of World Learning Group.

You will provide independent oversight, constructive challenge, strategic advice, and sector insight to the executive leadership team. The role requires sound judgement, integrity, and a strong commitment to student success, regulatory compliance, and good governance.

Key Responsibilities

The Non-Executive Board Member will:

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and long-term development of World Learning Group.
  • Provide independent advice, scrutiny, and constructive challenge to the executive team.
  • Support strong governance, accountability, and risk management.
  • Help ensure the organisation operates in line with regulatory, legal, financial, and quality requirements.
  • Promote the organisation’s mission of widening participation and fair access to higher education.
  • Monitor organisational performance against agreed targets and strategic objectives.
  • Support the development of policies, systems, and processes that improve quality and student outcomes.
  • Provide guidance on growth, sustainability, partnerships, and reputation.
  • Act in the best interests of World Learning Group, its students, stakeholders, and wider community.
  • Attend board meetings and, where required, participate in committees or special advisory groups.
Person Specification

We are looking for an individual who can bring independent judgement, professional expertise, and a commitment to education and social impact.

The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Higher education, further education, or private education provision.
  • Governance, compliance, risk, or quality assurance.
  • Office for Students regulatory requirements or UK higher education regulation.
  • Finance, audit, legal, or organisational strategy.
  • Student experience, safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • University partnerships, academic quality, or institutional development.
  • Business growth, marketing, recruitment, or stakeholder engagement.
  • Community engagement, widening participation, or social mobility.
Essential Requirements

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Senior leadership, governance, advisory, or board-level experience.
  • Strong understanding of strategic oversight and organisational accountability.
  • Ability to analyse information, ask informed questions, and provide constructive challenge.
  • High standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Commitment to widening participation, fair access, equality, and student success.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other board members and senior leaders.
  • Sufficient time and commitment to attend meetings and contribute effectively.
Desirable Requirements

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience in the UK higher education sector.
  • Knowledge of private higher education provision.
  • Understanding of OfS expectations, quality assurance, and student outcomes.
  • Previous experience as a trustee, governor, director, or non-executive board member.
  • Experience supporting organisations through growth, change, or regulatory development.

Time Commitment
