Care Support Worker – Help People Live Their Best Lives Every DayCharles Harper House is a small supported housing service providing personalised, 1:1 support to adults with learning disabilities and sensory impairments, including people who are Deaf and use British Sign Language (BSL). The service consists of 8 self‐contained flats within a communal building, shared spaces, and a garden. Support is delivered on a 24/7 rota, with one sleep‐in staff member overnight and daytime/evening cover between 7am and 10pm, usually in 7‐hour shifts. We're looking for caring, flexible, and resilient Care Support Workers who are confident working 1:1 and comfortable supporting people with a variety of needs. BSL skills or Deaf awareness are a key part of this role, and we welcome applicants who already have experience or who are motivated to continue developing these skills.
What You'll Do
Provide 1:1 support to individuals, tailored to their needs and communication preferences
Support with daily living tasks, routines, and personal care where required
Communicate effectively with Deaf customers, including using signed BSL where appropriate
Encourage independence, choice, and self‐expression
Support people to access hobbies, interests, and community activities
Maintain safe, clean, and welcoming living environments
Build positive working relationships with colleagues, families, and professionals
Complete accurate records and contribute to reviews and team meetings
Work flexibly across day, evening, weekend, and sleep‐in shifts
Essential – What You'll Need
This role is part‐time, working 22.5 hours per week, with a requirement to work flexibly across a 24/7 rota, including weekends and occasional sleep‐ins.
A kind, patient, and person‐centred approach
Ability to work 1:1 and adapt to a range of needs
Good communication skills, including basic written skills for record keeping
Respect for diversity and commitment to inclusive support
Ability to pass a satisfactory DBS check
BSL / Deaf Awareness
Level 2 BSL (ideal), or
Practical BSL experience or Deaf awareness (for example through work, volunteering, or family/friends)
Willingness to continue developing BSL skills (a Level 1 BSL cohort is planned)
Desirable (not Essential)
Previous experience in care or support (paid or voluntary)
Experience supporting people with learning disabilities and/or sensory impairments
Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care
