The RoleAs part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will carry out care duties for patients, in support of a registered nurse/Operating Department practitioner (ODP) and will regularly work unsupervised but with the wider theatre team available for reference at all times. The post holder will also carry out assigned duties involving direct and indirect patient care within the theatre environments. The post holder will be required to perform physical, technical and emotional aspects of patient care in an efficient, effective and responsible manner with accuracy in a busy environment.
In this key role, you will:
Check theatre list and ensure the theatre is ready for use, cleaning and checking specialist theatre equipment, cleaning work surfaces, floors, cupboards, etc. Prior to each surgical case to ensure patient safety and infection control.
Reset, replace and adjust theatre equipment during a procedure as required to ensure patient safety, in accordance with NHS Lanarkshire Protocols or manufacturer's guidance.
Ensure that all instrument sets and supplementary items are available and prepared for each case.
Support the scrub team by providing instruments and supplementary sundries safely and timely as directed by the scrub practitioner.
Act as the circulating team member in the theatre and carry out assigned tasks from the registered nurse/ODP and medical staff to ensure delivery of high quality patient care.
