Healthcare Assistant - Sexual Health

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Sexual Health Healthcare Assistant to join our team at the Oldham Integrated Care Sexual Health Service. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality sexual health services to our diverse patient population.

This 15‐hour post is based at Oldham Integrated Care Sexual Health Service. Travel between clinic sites is required, so access to transport is essential. Working hours range between 8:00am and 7:00pm, with occasional shifts up to 8:00pm at spoke or peripheral clinics.

Key Responsibilities

Follow all policies and protocols pertaining to the role, reporting any concerns or issues to lead nurses or the administration manager.

Provide first point of contact for patients assessed as requiring asymptomatic screening management.

Undertake necessary tests, including phlebotomy, urinalysis and instruction to patients regarding self‐testing for STI's and long‐term conditions such as HIV where required.

Undertake microscopy following approved training to support the management of clinical symptoms and report findings to the clinician responsible for care.

Assist with the correct collection and recording of specimens.

Offer advice and education to patients regarding safe sex practices and further help and advice.

Perform condom demonstration to clients and understand the importance of education.

Perform pregnancy testing and urinalysis following instruction from clinical colleagues.

Assist clinical staff as necessary, including recording of blood pressure, height, weight and BMI.

Qualifications and Training

NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).

Care Certificate (desirable).

Recent experience working in a patient‐facing or customer‐service setting.

Previous experience within a sexual health service (desirable).

Understanding of confidentiality, privacy and dignity in care.

Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusive practices.

Skills & Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication, particularly with patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams.

Able to provide individualised, empathetic care to patients.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workload independently.

Attention to detail and commitment to high standards of care.

Flexible and adaptable to changing service demands, including evenings, weekends and outreach clinics.

Calm under pressure with the ability to adjust to a fast‐paced environment.

Trustworthy, patient and compassionate.

Professional and respectful approach to patient interactions.

Additional Requirements

Full UK driving licence and access to a car for travel between clinic bases and outreach locations.

Ability to work flexibly between 8:00am and 7:00pm, with occasional shifts up to 8:00pm.

Informed about travel across several locations; transport access essential.
