Mental Health Support Worker – SEMH (Ages 5–16)

Location: Wallsend / Newcastle upon Tyne

Availability: Full-time | Temporary

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

Leader Education are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join a specialist SEMH school in Newcastle upon Tyne. This role involves supporting pupils aged 11–16 within a nurturing and structured environment that prioritises modern education and helps young people realise their full potential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a resilient and motivated individual who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

The Role

Supporting pupils aged 11‐16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs

Building positive, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, understood, and supported

Delivering one‐to‐one and small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience, and wellbeing

Supporting pupils to manage behaviour and mental health challenges in a proactive and positive manner

Encouraging engagement, independence, confidence, and self‐esteem

Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals

Contributing to a calm, respectful, and inclusive learning environment aligned with the school's values

The Ideal Candidate

Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, mental health, or additional needs (desirable but not essential)

Is empathetic, patient, and emotionally resilient

Demonstrates excellent communication and relationship‐building skills

Is committed to promoting respect, honesty, trust, compassion, and integrity

Is confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team

Holds a valid DBS on the Update Service, or is willing to obtain one
