Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in General Surgery
Job Overview: An exciting opportunity at Furness General Hospital with a requirement to complete the ACP course based at a local university at masters level. The post holder will travel between the three UHMB hospital sites including Kendal, Lancaster, and Barrow-in-Furness. The role blends direct higher level clinical care with education, management, and governance.

Responsibilities:

Work at the level outlined in the HEE Multi‐professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice (2017), focusing equally on Clinical, Leadership/management, education, and research/audit.

Lead and develop practice to promote high quality service across the patient pathway.

Provide highly specialised care for patients and lead expert practice through leadership, consultation, clinical advice, teaching and support for staff.

Develop and implement service improvements as an integral part of the post.

Qualifications:

Registered professional on the relevant part of the register for the post.

Master's degree in Advanced Practice or working towards one.

Non‐medical prescriber with relevant teaching qualification (e.g., City & Guilds or Professional Trainers Certificate).

Evidence of continuing professional development and registered mentoring.

Experience:

Experience establishing effective communication.

Knowledge and experience caring for patients with respiratory conditions.

Evidence of clinical competence and credibility in the specialty, at a senior level.

High degree of autonomy within a specialist area.

Change management experience.

Teaching, mentoring and assessing junior staff.

Work as a member of the multidisciplinary clinical team.

Experience undertaking audit, research, and development of policies, procedures and practice.

Leadership experience relevant to clinical specialty; setting and monitoring of standards.

Skills and Knowledge:

Prioritise own workload and that of others, effective time‐management and organisational skills.

Effective written and verbal communication.

Up‐to‐date knowledge of developments in the relevant area of care.

Understanding of clinical governance and its application.

Understanding of current best practice and NHS initiatives.

Develop and deliver nurse/AHP‐led services and clinics independently of medical consultants.

Autonomous practitioner capable of admitting, investigating, diagnosing, treating, prescribing, and discharging patients.

Work under pressure with exceptional organisation and time‐management skills.

Committed to CPD of self and others, with proven mentoring, teaching and assessing skills.

Advanced people‐management skills.

Competent IT skills (e‐mail, internet, data manipulation, PowerPoint).

Develop standards of care.

Ensure own actions support equality, diversity, rights and maintain quality.

Basic and advanced clinical skills relevant to the specialty.

Personal Qualities:

Flexible and adaptable to changing needs.

Excellent interpersonal, enthusiastic, innovative, approachable, caring, kind and compassionate.

Motivated and able to motivate others.

Handle difficult and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.

Employment: Permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week), NHS Band 8a, banded under Accident & Emergency Agreement (AfC) Annex 21. Salary £57,528–£64,750 per annum, with pay protection as required.
