Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in General Surgery

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in General Surgery, based at Furness General Hospital. The successful applicant will be required to complete the ACP course at a local University at master's level.
The post holder will be required to travel between all three hospital sites within University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, including Kendal, Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness.
The role blends direct, higher level clinical care with education and management activities, with a focus on Governance. The post holder is expected to build working relationships across the local health community and to initiate, sustain and evaluate change.
Main duties of the job
Work closely with the existing General Surgery team and a multidisciplinary team within the Surgical Division, including Consultants and Specialist Nurses.
Operate at the level outlined in the HEE Multi‐professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice (2017), with equal focus on all four pillars: Clinical, Leadership/Management, Education, Research/Audit.
Lead and develop practice to promote and provide high quality service throughout the patient pathway for patients and their families.
Provide and facilitate the delivery of highly specialised care for patients.
Be responsible for providing expert practice through leadership, consultation, clinical advice, teaching and support for staff.
Service development will be an integral part of the post going forward.

We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal – as well as community health care premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. All hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day‐case and inpatient surgery, and support local outreach services.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
Registered Professional (on the relevant part of the register for the post)
Master's Degree in Advanced Practice or working towards it
Non‐Medical prescriber – relevant teaching qualification such as City & Guilds or Professional Trainers Certificate
Registered Mentor – evidence of continuing professional development
Experience
Experience of establishing effective communication.
Current knowledge and experience of caring for patients with respiratory conditions.
Evidence of clinical competence and credibility in the specialty and relevant post‐registration qualification experience at a senior level.
Exercise a high degree of autonomy within specialist area.
Change management experience and ability to develop expert practice.
Evidence of teaching, mentoring and assessing junior staff.
Experience of and ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary clinical team.
Experience of undertaking audit.
Experience of undertaking research.
Experience in the development of policies, procedures and practice.
Evidence of management/leadership experience relevant to clinical specialty.
Setting and monitoring standards.
Skills, ability and knowledge
Able to prioritise own workload and that of others, demonstrating effective time management and organisational skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
Up to date knowledge of developments in the appropriate area of care underpinned by theory and experience.
